Dear YCAN subscribers,
Some important events Community Gathering- Gas Expansion in the Northern TerritoryThe Northern Territory Environment Centre, Beyond Gas Network and Australian Conservation Foundation are supporting a group of Territorians to bring an urgent message down south. YCAN and other local climate groups are supporting this campaign.
The Territory is under threat from gas expansion like never before. For over a decade, Territorians have led the fight against this destructive industry, but now Country, water, and our climate are at greater risk than ever. They desperately need to tell more people down south what's happening so we can tell our Victorian Federal politicians they must stop the gas industry from ruining country, poisoning water and pouring more fuel on the climate catastrophe.
After Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony on the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra River) a panel discussion inside the Koorie Heritage Trust will include speakers:
Miliwanga Wurrben, Rembarrnga Traditional owner, healer and artist
Adam Gaston, Mangarrayi man and advocate for Country
Mililma May, Danggalaba Kulumbirigin Tiwi community organizer
Dr. Louise Woodward, NT paediatrician
Another similar event is at Coburg Town Hall on Saturday 23 November at 2.30 pm.Hosted by Kirsty Howey, Executive Director of Environment Centre NT, with stalls from local climate groups Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network, Lighter Footprints/KCCA and Yarra Climate Action Now. Add your voice to the petition calling on Victorian Federal Labor MPs to take action to stop fracking in the Northern Territory. Sign the Petition, and RSVP NT Climate Justice to stand with Territorians and protect our future from the dangerous climate impacts of the expansion of gas extraction. People and country must come before profit for the few.
